Since November 2021, Pietro Bergamini is a postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Claudio Grillo.
After a Bachelor and Master degree in physics at the Università degli Studi di Ferrara, he obtained his PhD in Astrophysics in 2019 at the Università degli Studi di Padova, under the supervision of Prof. Piero Rosati, Dr. Amata Mercurio, Prof. Giulia Rodighiero, and Prof. Alberto Franceschini. After the PhD, he spent two years at the Osservatorio di Astrofisica e Scienza dello Spazio Bologna, as a postdoctoral researcher.
The main focus of his work is the strong gravitational lensing by galaxy clusters. This is the most accurate technique for a detailed study of the total mass distribution of the core region of these structures.
A comparison between lens models with state-of-the-art cosmological simulation are providing important tests for the currently accepted LCDM cosmological model. Moreover, these models are currently used to study the intrinsic physical properties of the first stellar ensembles formed after the Bing Bang.
He is a member of the several national and international collaborations, such as Euclid, GLASS-ERS-JWST, and Zooming collaboration which gathers researchers from the University of Ferrara, the University of Milan, the University of Bologna and INAF.
